PGL Summer Camps: 50% off for First Timers

Since it was founded in 1957, hundreds of thousands of children have enjoyed A PGL ‘summer camp’ without their parents, trying out new activities and making new friends.

To encourage a new generation of kids to experience PGL for the first time, the company is now offering 50% off all its ‘First Timer’ multi-activity weeks this summer.

The offer – which must be booked by 18 June 2018 – saves up to £319 per child on a week-long residential stay.

Head of Holidays, Steve Hougham says “We understand it is a big thing for a parent to commit to their child’s first holiday away from home. But we know that children gain so much – especially in self-confidence – that it’s worth it, and this special offer makes the decision easier!”

All ‘First Timer’ holidays are just that: holidays exclusively for children who have not experienced PGL ‘unaccompanied’ before. Children who have been on a school trip or family holiday are eligible for the offer.

The half-price offer is on seven-night residential holidays on selected dates this summer at adventure centres in Surrey, Sussex, Wiltshire, the Isle of Wight, Devon, Dorset, Herefordshire, Shropshire and Lincolnshire.

Each is owned and run year-round by PGL, with trained staff taking care of everything from dawn to dusk – and beyond. Single-sex accommodation, all meals, activities every day, equipment, instruction and supervision are all included in holiday prices.

Specific examples of discount First Timer holiday weeks include:

Marchants Hill, Surrey: 4 Aug week for seven to 10 year olds was £639 now £319.50

Caythorpe Court, Lincs: 28 July & 4 Aug week for seven to 10 year olds was £639, now £319.50

Boreatton Park, Shrops: 18 & 25 Aug week for 10-13 year olds was £609, now £304.50

Liddington, Wilts: 11, 18 & 25 Aug week for seven to 10s or 10-13s was £609, now £304.50

Little Canada, IoW: 18 Aug week for 10-13s or 13-16 year olds was £589, now £294.50

To take advantage of the offer, book by 18 June and take out PGL’s special activity holiday insurance (£27 per child).

PGL: First Time Summer Camps for ‘Growing’ Kids

Of course PGL activity holidays are great fun. And a week at PGL is a great way to break up the long summer holidays (not to mention a boon to working parents).  It’s also a genuine ‘growing’ experience for youngsters, especially on its First Timer Weeks.

“With almost 60 years experience, parents can trust us to understand what children need when they are in our care,” says head of holidays Steve Hougham.

“We bring children together in small groups where they can learn from each other, share adventures and grow in confidence.  From the children’s perspective, it’s all about fun, and our group leaders and activity instructors certainly deliver that!

“We also seek to bring out the best in every child and help them achieve new heights when they are with us, often literally when it comes to ropes courses and high-level thrills,” says Hougham.

PGL’s overlapping age groups – seven to 10s, 10-13s and 13-16s – allow for physically and/or emotionally immature 10 year-olds to feel at home with younger children, while confident 10 year-olds may be happier in the pre-teen group.

First Timer Weeks are seven-night holidays exclusively for children who have never been to PGL before (a trip with school doesn’t count).  Knowing that every child is ‘new’ can make a small but helpful difference to some children – and their parents!

First Timer Weeks are on specific dates at specific centres, including Osmington Bay in Dorset on 13, 20 and 27 August At £559. Other centres welcoming First Timers are in Shropshire, Surrey, Wiltshire, Lincolnshire, Herefordshire and Devon.

All PGL breaks include single-sex accommodation with en-suite wc/shower, all meals, a mix of activities from abseiling to zip wire fun, supportive instructors, use of approved equipment and caring supervision around the clock.

Save £150 on PGL Love-to-Learn, Creative Kids and Action & Adventure Holidays

PGL has a fantastic new offer saving £150 per child on week-long summer camps. The offers are across a range of Specialist Holidays where children learn new skills, tackle exciting adventures and develop their creative talents. Bookings must be made by 10 June.  Examples include:

Motorsports weeks at Boreatton Park in Shropshire, Marchants Hill in Surrey, Caythorpe Court in Lincolnshire and Osmington Bay in Dorset , where purpose-built off-road tracks allow children to learn to ride motorbikes, quad bikes and go-karts safely. Engine sizes vary (depending on age group and location) from 50cc to 80cc. Speeds are limited to suit conditions.  Balance, clutch control, starting and stopping safely. Time trials, rather than races, help children benchmark success.  The holiday operates for age groups seven to tens, 10-13s and 13-16s, starting every Saturday between 23 July and 27 August. Brochure prices start at £589, with a massive £150 off the majority of weeks at these four centres.

Horse Riding and Trekking weeks in Shropshire, at Tregoyd House in the Brecon Beacons National Park and at Windmill Hill in Sussex are ideal for pony-mad children who are allocated ‘their own’ four-legged friend for the week, learning that mucking out and grooming is as important as riding.  The emphasis is on school-based riding, with instruction at the riding centre. The holiday operates for age groups seven to tens and 10-13 year olds, starting every Saturday in August. Brochure prices start at £609, with a huge £150 saving on select weeks.

Surfing weeks on the north Devon coast at Beam House are for 10-13 year olds and 13-16s who learn to surf at Westward Ho! beach just a short distance from the centre. Wetsuits, boards and all the kit is provided along with instruction: children learn to paddle out, catch, ride and (importantly) how to leave a wave, and generally pick up a cool surfing vibe! Holidays operate every week between 23 July and 27 August. The brochure price is £639, but virtually all weeks are now discounted by £150.

These are just three topics from a range of 21 themed holidays which include Photography Adventure, Dance, Film Making, Cook’s Academy, Climbing Adventure, Bushcraft, Mission Spy and Xtreme Adventure weeks. Holidays typically focus on the specialist skill/interest for six half-day sessions, and mix in six half-day sessions of multi-activity fun for balance.

Everything is included in the price: accommodation, all meals, specialist equipment and instruction, evening fun and round-the-clock supervision.

Summer Camps Sale from PGL saves up to 60%

Beating boredom this summer is easy – and costs less – now that PGL has discounted its remaining summer camp holidays by up to 60%.

Teenagers aged 13-16 could learn to drive a real car in Shropshire or in Lincolnshire, with a seven-night holiday at Caythorpe Court near Grantham starting Saturday 16 August now reduced to £258, down from £645, saving £387.

With instruction on private roads, looking at theory and practical knowledge as well as hands-on driving skills in dual-control cars, teenagers can get a head start – in safety – with plenty of fun activities mixed in too – from abseiling to zip wire thrills at this 65-acre estate.

Budding film-makers can get creative – with all the equipment provided – at Osmington Bay in Dorset on holidays starting 16 and 23 August, with different groups for 10-13s and 13-16 year olds.  Pay as little as £247, down from £619 for a full week’s holiday and saving £372.

Children learn the basics of film and sound recording, scriptwriting, sound and visual effects, directing and editing – as well as being in front of the camera!

And for those who want to try a whole range of activities, there are ‘multi-activity’ breaks of four-nights or seven-nights at adventure centres including Winmarleigh Hall in Lancashire, just an hour from Manchester and Liverpool.  The 50 acres surrounding the Victorian mansion include woods to explore, a lake on which to canoe and a quad bike track.

A week at Winmarleigh Hall is now half price, with places on the last week of summer – starting 23 August – from just £259.50 for children aged seven to 16.
