Introduce Children to PGL this Half Term and save £££

A three-day/two-night PGL Introductory Adventure at October half term is the perfect opportunity for unaccompanied children to discover their independence – and have fun!

The cost for one child is £169, but an offer – book three children and only pay for two – encourages three siblings or friends to try PGL together, at a reduced price. With the offer, the cost per child is reduced to £112.

The discounted breaks are for children aged seven to 13, start on Tuesday 23 October and are offered at PGL’s Boreatton Park adventure centre in Shropshire, Liddington in Wiltshire, Marchants Hill in Surrey, Windmill Hill in Sussex and Osmington Bay in Dorset.

“Every child on an Introductory Adventure is experiencing PGL for the first time,” says head of holidays Steve Hougham, “and we know that for many children, it is also the first time they’ve been away without a parent, so our Group Leaders are trained to give additional support.”

PGL’s website is packed with information helpful to parents of ‘first-timers’, from its Parent Guide to several videos illustrating life at a PGL centre.

Parents can deliver their children to the centre on Tuesday morning, see the amazing facilities for themselves and meet PGL staff who are ‘in loco parentis’ during the break. (All meals from Tuesday lunch to Thursday dinner are included.)

During the three-day break, children enjoy up to eight activity sessions, ranging from fun ball sports to thrilling rope and zip wire activities. Evenings are fun too, with ‘winding down’ sessions before supervised bedtime.

Parents should quote INTRO342 when booking this ‘3 for 2’ offer.

Additionally, if parents subsequently book a child’s four- or seven-night multi-activity stay at February half term, Easter or May half term 2019, before the end of this year, PGL will refund the cost of the Introductory Adventure!

Love to Learn and Creative Kids holidays at PGL

Children – and parents – who think all PGL Adventure Holidays are ‘just’ for sporty types may be surprised to know that many of its holidays for unaccompanied kids are creative and skills-based.

“On our Creative Kids and Love to Learn holidays children and teenagers can pursue a particular interest like cooking, photography or making music for half the week, with a Multi Activity programme mixed in to ensure they get plenty of outdoor adventure,” said Steve Hougham, head of PGL Adventure Holidays.

“Many of these holidays include a personal diary in which kids can track their progress, an opportunity to wow everyone with a ‘last night’ performance, or take home tangible evidence of their activity, so there’s a real sense of achievement”, Hougham added.

Seven night Love to Learn and Creative Kids holidays this summer include:

Cook’s Academy

Age groups 7-10, 10-13, 13-16. Held at PGL Osmington Bay centre on Dorset’s Jurassic Coast.

A professional chef teaches good ‘prep’ skills and helps kids cook a variety of meals from starters through mains to puddings. Each child has his/her own recipe book in which to keep notes, and takes home a completed dish to wow the family.

The cost of the week is £629, with start dates 1, 8 and 15 August.

Film Making

Age groups 10-13, 13-16. Held at PGL Boreatton Park in Shropshire.

For kids dreaming of a career behind or in front of the camera, working together as a crew on script, sound, camera, acting, direction and editing to produce a finished ‘short’ that every team member can take home on DVD. Digital video cameras, editing equipment, costumes and all the technical wizardry is provided.

The cost of the week is £659, with start dates 18 & 25 July and 1 & 8 August.

Learner Driver

Age group 13-16. Held at PGL Boreatton Park in Shropshire.

Before they’re old enough to drive on a public road, teens can get a head start on driving skills under careful supervision in dual control cars in a private location. Participants learn driving theory, vehicle safety and hands-on driving skills, which are recorded in his/her course folder, with an end of holiday ‘driving performance report’ to keep.

The cost of the week is £669, with start dates 18 & 25 July, 1, 8, 15 & 22 August.

In all cases, the holiday consists of six half-days of the specialist theme and six half-days of a Multi Activity programme. Accommodation, all meals, equipment, tuition, evening entertainment and supervision included in the price.

Holidaying alone: PGL makes it easy for kids, and parents!

Activity camps are an antidote for summer boredom and boon for working parent, yet can be a daunting prospect for children who’ve never been away ‘on their own’– not to mention for their parents!  PGL nurtures nervous children with breaks designed just for them:

INTRODUCTORY ADVENTURE BREAKS

Two-night/three-day breaks costing £159 per child.

  • Breakfast, lunch and tea are included, as are rehydration opportunities, sympathetic care, professional instruction in the activities, and evening fun before a supervised bedtime.
  • These breaks are at Dalguise in Perthshire starting 22 July (discounted to £109), Liddington in Wiltshire starting 12 August, at Boreatton Park in Shropshire starting 19 August and at Caythorpe Court in Lincolnshire starting 26 August.
  • THREE FOR TWO OFFER If three children are booked onto the same Introductory Adventure, parents pay for two, and the third child is free.

FIRST TIMER WEEKS

A full seven nights, and all children on the holiday will be first-timers* to PGL.  The longer stay gives a child time to settle down, get to know his/her PGL ‘group leaders’ and make friends within the group.

  • These holidays start on 26 July at Marchants Hill in Surrey (also 9 August); on 2 August at Beam House in Devon, at Boreatton Park in Shropshire (also 16 and 23 August) and at Osmington Bay in Dorset; on 9 August at Caythorpe Court in Lincolnshire (also 16 August), at Liddington in Wiltshire and at Hillcrest in Herefordshire.
  • SAVE 40%, 50% or 60% on selected dates and age groups this summer.  For example, seven to 10 year olds and 10-13 year olds at Caythorpe Court for the week starting 16 August would have paid £549 each, now reduced to £219.60, a saving of 60%.

For further reassurance parents can read an online Parent Guide, with FAQS answered, information about staff selection, safety and other concerns addressed.  Film footage and interviews with real parents can also be viewed online

* FIRST TIMERS NOTE: children often experience PGL on an organised school trip with their teachers and school-friends.  Those accompanied breaks do not count, ie for this holiday/offer a ‘first timer’ is a child who has not previously experienced a PGL summer camp alone.

All offers must be booked by 7 August.

PGL’s age groups are seven to 10 year olds; 10-13 year olds; 13-16 year olds.
