Vintage Travel introduces Villas in Sicily

Villa specialist Vintage Travel has just introduced Sicily to its programme, due to demand for ‘somewhere different’ from regular customers, and better flight capacity to the island.

“Sicily also offers a longer season – from the end of March to early November – being on the same latitude as Marbella and Tunis,” says marketing and sales manager Stephen Ellison

“While we have launched with just three properties that come up to Vintage Travel standards, we will look to increase this, and we can already confirm bookings for 2019,” adds Stephen.

The villas are within 20 minutes’ drive of Cefalu on the north coast. Each has a private pool, and each offers glorious sea views over the sleepy village of Sant’Ambrogio where a sand and pebble beach, a couple of restaurants and small supermarket may be found.

Terzetto is the most unusual property, consisting of three separate cube-like buildings, two clad in dark wood, the third in stone. The three Suites offer an extended family – or three couples – the perfect balance of privacy and sociability. The Suites share the private pool, a fabulous summer kitchen with covered dining area, wood-fired oven, inbuilt barbecue, sink and washing machine, as well as the lawns and terraces that offer distant sea views.

The main Suite has a double bedroom and shower room, and provides the indoor living space including a kitchen and dining room. Suite Two is a double with shower, and Suite Three has two double bedrooms which share a shower room.

Terzetto is priced both for small parties, and for occupancy by five to eight people, with peak summer 2018 prices ranging from £3786 to £4486. 2019 prices start at £2396 for up to four people, and from £3096 for a booking for five to eight people.

The other new Sicily properties are: Il Nido, which sleeps four and effortlessly combines original stone features with contemporary style in a glorious spot five kilometres above Sant’Ambrogio.  Cirasa is a traditional Sicilian farmhouse oozing character from the beamed ceilings to the antique furniture. It sleeps up to eight and offers special rates for smaller parties.

Flights and car hire can be arranged by Vintage Travel on request.

Contemporary and Quirky: Freelance Holidays Sicily Additions

Mediterranean villa company Freelance Holidays has expanded its Sicily programme for 2017 with typically quirky properties.

Casa Tecla is a former fisherman’s cottage beside the sea that has been given a clever make-over to create a stylish retreat. It is in Santa Tecla, a fishing village  with a bar and a couple of restaurants , while the baroque town of Acireale a few kms inland has more choice. Casa Tecla has a small plunge pool on the terrace and a walled garden with a sea view. Open the garden gate and step onto the lava rocks to launch for a morning swim!

Inside, two bedrooms sit under the eaves (one double, one twin). There are two smart shower rooms and a well-equipped kitchen while the open-plan living space has a barrel-like vaulted ceiling and cool tiled floor.  Catania is about 15kms away, so this is a great base for sightseeing, including Mount Etna’s volcanic park.

Available, as are almost all Freelance Holidays’ properties, to rent by the night, Casa Tecla costs from £171 per night, rising to £342 per night in August peak, for up to four people. Excludes flights and car hire.

Set right on the beach in Calabernardo , close to the baroque beauty of Noto (a UNESCO World Heritage town) is Noto Beach Villa. Since the soft sand and blue sea are just over the low wall, there’s no pool, but a wraparound dining veranda and garden at the side provide indoor/outdoor space and privacy.

Three bedrooms and three bath/shower rooms offer plenty of space for six, with accommodation all on the ground floor.  The simple style and modern furnishings are family-friendly.  Freelance Holidays’ nightly rental ranges from £123 to £299 for up to six people, excluding flights and car hire.

For larger families, 20 minutes drive from Syracuse is Villa Maddelena, a four-bedroom villa with luxuriant gardens and sea views. Clever landscaping of rocks and plants means the free-form pool looks very natural, and the beautiful loggia has a built-in wood oven and barbecue as well as dining and lounging furniture.

A ‘master suite’ with its own entrance provides a vast double bedroom, ensuite and dining/kitchen area. Two further doubles and a twin offer beds for eight, with a sofa bed in the living room for +1. The house spreads generously over three levels, with sea views from several rooms. The resort’s excellent Lido (entrance fee) is just 150 yards along the road, for the beach, a bar and restaurant.

Villa Maddelena costs from £299 per night to £571 per night, for eight or nine people. Excludes flights and car hire.
