New for 2018: PGL Family Adventures on the Suffolk Heritage Coast

PGL will open a new adventure centre on the Suffolk Heritage Coast in 2018 and will offer both Family Adventure breaks and Summer Camps for unaccompanied children at Bawdsey Manor.

The new centre is near Woodbridge, less than two hours from the M25 and a similar drive time from Cambridge. The impressive 144-acre estate at the mouth of the River Deben includes a private beach.  See Bawdsey Manor drone footage filmed prior to PGL purchasing the estate.

The beautiful house was built between 1886 and 1895. Its ornamental gables, octagonal towers and terraces have earned it Grade II* Listed status and the extensive grounds include other Listed buildings and gardens. Owned by the RAF during the Second World War and throughout the Cold War period, Bawdsey Manor was an important radar research centre.

After PGL’s transformation programme this winter, Bawdsey Manor will offer a superb range of activities for 2018 including archery, abseiling, canoeing, climbing, fencing, rifle-shooting, a giant swing and zip wire, Jacob’s ladder, a high-flying trapeze plus orienteering and beach safaris.

As well as acres of playing fields, Bawdsey Manor has an indoor sports hall and a games room, dining room and lounges.

For families with children as young as five, PGL will offer seven, four and two-night multi-activity holidays and breaks. A seven-night holiday starts from £489 per adult/£409 per child; a two-night weekend break starts from £179 per adult/£159 per child.  In both cases this is based on sharing an ensuite family room and includes all meals, activities, equipment, instruction and family-friendly evening fun.

Unaccompanied children aged seven to 16 – accommodated separately from families – will be able to choose between multi-activity breaks and a ‘love to learn’ Cook’s Academy themed week.

Multi-activity weeks start at £599 per child; a Cook’s Academy holiday is £699.  Includes accommodation, all meals, activities, equipment, instruction, supervision and evening fun.

October half term is the last chance this year for adventurous families to have fun at PGL, with a choice of two- and four-night breaks at four of the UK centres – with discounts for adults and kids alike.

Two-night weekend breaks are organised in Dorset, Wiltshire, Shropshire and Lincolnshire, with start dates of 20 and 27 October to suit all school holiday dates.

As an example of price, adults now pay just £109 (saving £56), and children five to 18 years pay £99 (saving £46) for a two-night break at Caythorpe Court in Lincolnshire starting 20 October, when sharing an en-suite family room. The new deal means that a family of two adults and two children save a massive £204 on their break!

The same prices and savings apply at Liddington in Wiltshire on 20 or 27 October, at Osmington Bay in Dorset on 20 October, and at Boreatton Park in Shropshire on 20 or 27 October.

Four-night mid-week breaks at the same centres now cost from £209 per adult (saving £96) and from £179 per child (saving £76), again based on sharing a family room, and representing a huge saving of £344 on a family of four!  Start dates are 23 and 30 October.

In all cases, the break includes simple accommodation, either in a family room with en-suite shower/wc, or (at a higher price) separate rooms for parents and children; plus all meals and action-packed days tackling – as a family – activities ranging from the skills of archery and fencing to the thrills of the high-flying trapeze and zip wire. All specialist equipment and instruction is also provided.

Evenings are full of family-friendly fun, and as well as extensive grounds all centres have plenty of indoor space with lounges and a bar so that parents can enjoy a well-earned glass of wine!
