Friendship Travel’s new 5-star in Turkey reflects Single Travellers’ trend towards Adult-only Hotels

Specialist operator Friendship Travel has introduced the five-star adult-only The Raga in Side to its Summer 2019 programme, reflecting what it describes as “increasing demand” from its single travellers for child-free hotels.

For 2019, ten of the 21 Mediterranean hotels in the company’s summer programme are adult-only, including Friendship Travel’s Houseparty-style properties.

“Our holidays at adult-only hotels book up more quickly than departures to multi-generational properties, even where prices may be a little higher” says Friendship Travel’s founder and managing director Colum McLornan.

“Our single travellers tell us that they prefer not to share their precious holiday time with young families, so we increasingly look to add adult-only hotels to our line-up.”

Friendship Travel offers sociable group holidays in larger, shared properties with extensive facilities, and in intimate hotels as small as 14 rooms to offer what the company calls a Houseparty style experiences ‘like a private catered villa party’.

All holidays are Hosted by a Friendship Travel team member, and all guests have a standard double room for sole occupancy with no single supplement to pay.

The Raga in Side was renovated this year to create a five-star adult-only of 187-rooms. It now offers a sophisticated and stylish environment for adults where the emphasis is on good food and drink. The outstanding value all-inclusive package features waiter service, show cooking stations, huge variety in its menus and international branded alcoholic drinks as well as soft drinks.

The hotel offers a choice of bars and restaurants, a spa and two pools. It also has its own beach bar on Side’s superb west beach, which is within 300 metres of the main hotel. Historic Side, where the Temples of Athena and Apollo stand beside the Med, along with the remains of the Roman market, the bath-house and Byzantine palace, are a short taxi ride away.

Friendship Travel operates weekly departures to The Raga every Saturday from May to October 2019, with seven and 14-night packages to choose from.

Every holiday is Hosted by a Friendship Travel team member and includes flights from Gatwick (with up to 18 regional options), transfers, a five-star double room for sole occupancy, all meals, snacks and drinks including premium international brands. Seven nights in May start at just £995.

The other adult-only hotels in Friendship Travel’s Summer 2019 programme are:

  • The small and friendly Forever Hotel in Oludeniz on Turkey’s Turquoise Coast and the 4Reasons boutique hotel on the Bodrum peninsula.
  • In the Greek islands, the budget-friendly Apollon Hotel and the boutique Ionian Hill Hotel are both on Zante, while boutique hotel Caesar’s Gardens and the five-star Lindos Memories hotels are both on Rhodes.
  • The newly-created Casa Rosa is in Olhao on the Algarve, the H10 Hotel Blue Mar is in Mallorca and the H10 Ocean Dreams Hotel on the island of Fuerteventura.

8 Solo Ski Options from Friendship Travel this winter

Friendship Travel is offering solo skiers the chance to ski in eight European resorts this season, including two exclusive chalet houseparties in France.

All seven-night prices are based on guests enjoying their own room with no single supplement to pay, and include flights, resort transfers, breakfast every day, afternoon tea every day and dinner with wine on five evenings, as well as the support of chalet staff.

Novice and intermediate skiers are recommended to book one of the two exclusive houseparties, which also include six mornings of ski school, for either ski or snowboarding, within the package price.

The two exclusive houseparties are Chalet Maya in Alpe d’Huez, where a week’s skiing, with lessons, starts at just £839. The chalet offers simple accommodation in a traditional alpine chalet sleeping up to eight guests.

Chalet Refuge et Lodge is the exclusive houseparty in Serre Chevalier, where a week’s skiing, including lessons, costs from £1035, with a Christmas departure from £1186.

Other resorts where Friendship Travel offers singles skiing based in larger hotels include St Christoph in Austria, Meribel, La Plagne, Val d’Isere, Tignes and Les Deux Alpes in France.

“I’m a skier myself, and like many travel entrepreneurs, my early days in the industry included repping in the Alps,” says Friendship Travel’s founder and managing director Colum McLornan, “and that experience has helped to shape our programme for single skiers.”
