Beautiful holiday cottages recently signed by the regional cottage specialists

within the Wyndham Vacation Rentals Group

In postcard-pretty Staithes, Yorkshire Cottages is now offering a quintessential fisherman’s cottage on the harbour-side with uninterrupted views of the bay and out to sea. Rockpool Cottage is a perfect bolt-hole for one or two couples, with two beautiful double bedrooms and a large living/dining room with a stylish mix of painted furniture and coastal chic. A rare bonus in Staithes is vehicle access and parking for two cars at the cottage itself, rather than in the public car park at the ‘top’ of the village. The quaint tea rooms, coastal galleries and good village pubs are within a five minute walk over the bridge and round the harbour. A week’s rental for four ranges from £410 to £741.

A luxurious lodge, just 50 yards from the shore of Lake Windermere, is one of the latest signings for the Lake District’s premier holiday cottage agency, Cumbrian Cottages. Ambleside 64 sits within the White Cross Bay resort, so guests have access to the indoor heated pool, children’s play area, pub, restaurant and shop, as well as the jetty and marina on the lakeshore. The lodge’s exterior may be timber, but there’s nothing rustic about the contemporary indoor space with open-plan living area and two bedrooms (the master double ensuite). There’s WiFi, Freeview and Sky packages for the TV, while outside there’s a furnished deck with gas BBQ. A week’s rental for a family of four ranges from £338 to £622.

The latest eco-friendly developments at Tarset Tor glamping site on the fringe of Kielder Forest are two Bothy holiday homes. Cedar construction, recycled paper insulation, wood-pellet boilers and solar energy all reduce the environmental impact: there’s even an electric vehicle charging point. The open-plan living space includes a wood-burning stove and French doors open onto the deck. Upstairs are two shower rooms and two bedrooms, each furnished with a ‘triple’ bunk consisting of a double bed with a single above, plus a standard bunk, making this a fantastic holiday home for two families. Modern life is catered for with Smart TV, iPod dock and WiFi. In the woods are a fire pit and barbecue, a bird hide and private ‘bar’ area. A week’s Bothy rental for up to 10 ranges from £912 to £960.

Hayfield IS ‘The Village’ as seen on BBC TV

BBC One Series ‘The Village’ – starring Maxine Peake and John Simm – returns to our screens for six weeks starting this Sunday 10 August at 9pm, with the Peak District looking pretty as a picture in scenes shot this Spring in and around the village of Hayfield.

Series creator Richard Moffat said “Sitting in Rosie’s Tea Shop in Hayfield listening to the ramblers, cyclists, fell runners and local people one gets such a strong sense of how the great beauty, power and strength of this landscape shapes the character of the people… The more time I spend up in Edale and around Hayfield and Glossop the more I love this rugged, beautiful, honest part of England…”

Local holiday cottage agency Derbyshire Cottages has 16 properties in and around Hayfield, including:

Jumble Cottage, a mill-workers terrace that is now a light and modern bolt-hole for a couple.  It has a pretty double bedroom, a country kitchen and an open fire in the living room.  It’s pet friendly too, at no extra charge.  It’s on the edge of the village, with the pubs and tea shops just a few minutes’ walk from the front door.  A week’s rental of this four-star cottage in September starts at just £295.

The aptly-named Hayfield View is a spacious studio with glorious rural views towards the village from its private outdoor space.  It’s the upper storey of a stone outbuilding within the owner’s grounds, and provides one huge open-plan living, dining, sleeping space featuring a king-sized bed, comfortable sofa, well-equipped kitchen and a separate shower room – perfect for a couple.  A week’s rental in September starts at £285.
