New Electric Cruiser for Greener Holidays Afloat

Silent EmblemIt’s not only Britain’s car industry that is going electric!  With the introduction of a new electric motor-cruiser, Waterways Holidays now offers six environmentally-friendly boats on the Norfolk Broads.

The brand new ‘Silent Emblem’ has just been launched at Horning and is one of the ‘greenest’ cruisers on the Broads. Its electric motor is not only kinder to this unique eco-system, but is virtually silent.

“Cruising in Silent Emblem offers a very special boating experience,” says Waterways Holidays’ managing director Nigel Richards, “without any engine noise, you can really tune in to the sounds of nature, from the wind in the reeds to the song of a warbler.”

The electric motor gives between four and five hours’ super-quiet running time, before the on-board generator cuts in and re-charges the batteries whilst running.  The boat also has an eco-friendly sealed tank system, which means no ‘grey water’ discharge into the Broads.

Silent Emblem’s unique design results in 36 square feet of living space and extra headroom. The aft cabin is big enough to walk around the double bed (luxury sprung mattress), the ensuite features a large shower and standard wc, while French-style doors at the back open onto a sun deck.

The kitchen area includes an induction hob, oven, steamer, microwave and fridge. There’s Freesat TV/DVD, a Radio/CD player and power points for plugging in guests’ equipment such as hairdryer, mobile or camera charger. The saloon has a dining table, and a corner-style sofa may be converted into sleeping accommodation for +1 if wished. There is LED lighting throughout and heating controlled by touch panels.  Dual-steering points, good sightlines and jet-thrusters for manoeuvring all make Silent Emblem easy to ‘drive’, even by novices.

Silent Emblem is a new sister boat to Whisper Emblem, which launched in 2016 and has almost identical features. A three-night weekend’s hire of Silent Emblem costs from £698 this autumn.

Larger parties looking for an eco-friendly way to cruise the Broads can book ‘Rhapsody’ which sleeps up to eight. This is one of three hybrid cruisers, with both electric motor and shore power hook-up.
